Course Reps & Student Voice Reps

Course Reps

Course Representatives (CRs) are the key link between students and course teaching teams, they are the middle person to convey information and feedback, to raise your experiences or concerns and help formulate an action plan with your teaching team. If you have any issues you can directly raise this with your CRs as they are the first port of call for students to handle any course related issues.

Student Voice Reps

Student Voice Reps (SVRs) are students who have been elected or appointed represent you academic matters relating to your student experience at USW. They do this by attending Faculty Learning Teaching Enhancement Committees (LTECs) and Faculty Quality Assurance Committees (FQACs) regularly and always input feedback they receive from students and course representatives to help resolve any issues flagged.

SVRs also chair Course Representative Assemblies (CRAs) where Course Reps are invited to attend any of the meetings to provide feedback and get some quick help or guidance to any ongoing issues. It is also an opportunity for the SVRs to connect with the CRs in their faculty.

Societies

By joining a society, you can meet people with similar interests, outlooks, cultures, or backgrounds. Societies can be related to:

  • A course or subject area, such as the Law Society or Arts Society
  • An interest, such as the Film Society, Spanish Society or Rock Music Society
  • A religion or culture, such as the Christian Union, Islamic Society or Afro Caribbean Society
  • An identity, such as the LGBTQ+ Society, Mature Student or Student Parents and Carers Society
  • A cause or campaign, such as Student Action for Refugees (STAR) or Student Action for Armed Forces Communities (SAAFCO)

Nothing that takes your interest? Don't worry, you can start your own society! To do this you will need a Chair, a Sectretary and a Treasurer. For more information on this contact our Societies Co-ordinator at mel.monks@southwales.ac.uk

Sports

Head to the sports page to see a full list of our teams and clubs!

Clubs

It’s easy to start a club! To become a club rather than a society the activity needs to have a governing body. You just need 3 people to form the committee (chair, secretary, treasurer) and complete a constitution.

Whilst there is no initial cost to set up a club, there are costs if the club competes in BUCS competitions and some venue hire costs.

For more information on our clubs email our Clubs Co-ordinator at craig.reddy@southwales.ac.uk

Teams

All of our teams are members of BUCS (British Universities and College Sport). Footbal, rugby and netball take place in September, after Freshers, where teams are picked to compete in BUCS. Training for all sports takes place every week at various times.

As a member of a team you will pay fees that cover the cost of kit, insurance, transport, First Aid and all things associated with fixtures.

There are also BUCS individual entries. These cover various sports which can be entered on an individual level (this covers sports that USW don’t normally accommodate/offer)

For more information on our teams email our Fixtures Co-ordinator at mandy.james@southwales.ac.uk

SU Democracy

The SU runs on Democracy. This means that you and your power within the Union. Each year you have the opportunity to elect the students you want to represent your voice at all levels of the University and the Union. Getting involved is simple. You can do so by standing in our elections, voting or submitting Call to Actions or Union Policies to our democratic forums.
