"One Campus, Many Nations: Let's Make Every Voice Heard!"

I'm Jahid Bin Siddik, currently pursuing my MSc in Engineering Management at USW, hailing proudly from Bangladesh. With a heart dedicated to service and a passion for fostering unity, I am thrilled to announce my candidature for the esteemed position of International Students Officer in the upcoming Student Union elections.

The variety of experiences and difficulties I've encountered along the way have greatly enriched my journey as an international student. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have been actively involved in various social activities both in my home country and here at USW. As an Executive Committee member of the Bangladesh Society of USW, I have worked tirelessly to promote cultural exchange and support networks for Bangladeshi students, fostering a sense of belonging within our community.

Beyond campus borders, I have been a fervent advocate for social change and community empowerment. From my early days as a social activist in Bangladesh to my current role as the Treasurer at the Globally Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association, I have consistently sought to make a positive impact wherever I go.

If entrusted with the role of International Student Officer, I pledge to:

  1.  Enhance Support Services: Advocate for tailored support services addressing the unique needs of international students, including academic support, mental health resources, and immigration assistance.
  2.  Promote Cultural Exchange: organise engaging events, workshops, and celebrations to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation among students from diverse backgrounds.
  3.  Amplify Student Voices: Serve as a dedicated advocate for the concerns and aspirations of international students, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued within the Student Union and university administration.
  4.  Empowerment through Collaboration: Forge meaningful partnerships with student organisations, university departments, and community stakeholders to create opportunities for international students to thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
  5. Transparency and Accountability: Maintain transparency in decision-making processes and financial matters, ensuring that international students are informed and involved in matters affecting their welfare and interests. Regularly report on progress and initiatives undertaken as International Students Officer, soliciting feedback and suggestions for future actions from the student body.

Together, let's build a vibrant and inclusive community where every international student feels supported, valued, and empowered to succeed. Your vote for me as International Student Officer is a vote for representation, advocacy, and positive change.

Thank you for your support!
