Course Reps

Course Reps serve as the frontline representative of the student voice, representing their peers on course related issues such as late feedback or appealing for clear resources for module assignments. Every Course should have at least one Course Rep per year of study. However, some courses may choose to have more due to cohort size.

At the start of the academic year, the Course Leader should send out an appeal for Course Reps. If more students than the number of positions put themselves forward, then the Course Leader will hold a class election. This may be done during one of your lecturers or seminars, or it may be held via online poll. Once the set time for voting has elapsed, the Course Leader will inform the course on who their new Course Reps are and complete the Course Rep Registration Form sent to them by the Students’ Union.

Once the Students’ Union are informed of who the Course Representative for your course is, we will include them onto our Blackboard site and the Course Rep Register. Course Reps will then be contacted by the Academic Affairs Co-Ordinator to attend training. This is an important part of your preparation in being a Course Rep as it provides you with the necessary information and skills to effectively represent your peers.

Why Be a Course Rep?

Course Reps play a vital role not only for the student voice on their course but for the wider student voice network. Course Reps provide feedback to Student Voice Representatives, whether via email or during Course Rep Assemblies. In addition to that, Course Reps can also:

  • Develop Employable skills for any job.
  • Build their portfolio of Volunteer Work
  • Gain an understanding of how your course runs.
  • Opportunities to contribute to wider University work.
  • Opportunities to attend validation events, each event coming with a £50 payment.
  • A certificate of recognition based on your work at the end of the year.
