Course Rep SSCLGs
WHAT ARE THEY?
Student Staff Course Liaison Groups (or SSCLGs) are termly meetings between Course Representatives and the Course Management Team. Your Course Leader should set a date for these meetings and invite Course Representatives from all years. These meetings should be chaired by the Academic Subject Manager, or their nominee, and the recorded action points should be circulated to all Course Reps following the meeting.
WHO ATTENDS?
Course Representatives are selected across all years within the University, and they represent both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses. The Course Leader, Course Management Team and Course Reps from all years are invited to attend their SSCLG. On occasion, staff from support services (such as the Library), may also be present.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A COURSE REP?
Course Representatives should gather feedback from their course mates to discuss with staff during SSCLG meetings and give them the opportunity to act upon student feedback. Course Representatives are encouraged to provide positive and negative comments during these meetings. Positive feedback is crucial; staff need to know what works for students, so they know what not to change! It is important that Course Representatives remain impartial whilst sharing comments made by their peers, whether or not they agree with them. After the SSCLG, Course Representatives should feedback what was discussed in the meeting to their fellow course mates.
WHEN ARE THEY?
These meetings happen at least once per term to discuss any of the issues raised by their peers. The meetings should last approximately an hour and Course Representatives are invited by staff to attend. Course Representatives will not be expected to set up the meetings themselves.
HOW ARE THEY RUN?
The meetings will be chaired by the course leader, or their nominee. Notes will be taken, and action points will be recorded at each meeting by an appropriate member of staff. Records of the actions will be made available to members for review and once confirmed, will be shared with: Course Representatives; managers across the University via Continuous Monitoring reporting, and; the Student Representative Team (who will send them to all relevant Student Voice Representatives). A copy of the confirmed notes/actions should also be uploaded on to the relevant course Blackboard site within two weeks of the SSCLG meeting, and relevant points should be included in any ‘You Said, We Did’ notifications.
