Black History Month
Black History Month is an excellent opportunity for the community to join together and educate ourselves on the realities of racism by engaging in dialogues with black students and staff. It's a moment to pause and reflect on their lives of prominent black figures throughout history so that we may honour their accomplishments, alongside all that has been accomplished in the fight for equality.
For Black History Month we want to spend this time learning, listening, and educating ourselves on the issues surrounding racism towards our Black students, and to start elevating their voices and listening to their experiences. We will asking people to sign pledges of things that they'll be doing to help Show Racism the Red Card and asking our Sports Teams and Clubs to wear red during their training sessions.
When we commemorate Black History Month, we provide a chance for individuals of all races to learn about the history and a people about whom they may be unaware.
We invite you on this journey with us, as we learn more to support our Black students and staff. We all have a part to play in the fight against racism, and making our University and SU a better place for everyone.
